It’s remarkable that a song like Amazing Grace, with such a simple, repetitive melody never gets boring. It’s a chant, really, with a hypnotic magnetism that can be personalized by anyone who sings it. “Amazing Grace and the News” is my variation of this classic prayer. You could probably figure this out yourself, but my intention is to show that no matter how difficult the times we live in, grace can float above current disasters to help us through. 2020 has been a hell of a year. There is so very much to be troubled about: worldwide pandemic, massive political division in the U.S., climate change disasters, and chronic racism uncovered one more time, to name onIy some of the problems. I sang the song acapella in the recording studio, and my brilliant sound engineer gradually added news clips, instruments and blended everything together, so that we could experience grace despite the background noise of our painful, beautiful and imperfect world. Amazing indeed.
