Butter and Sugar

I know sugar is addictive. I know sugar causes inflammation in the body. I know sugar can make you fat. And there was an era a few decades ago during which butter was a forbidden food. One was supposed to eat margarine instead, only for this to be disproved in time. But I love butter and sugar, separately and together! Together is the best. One way my mom showed warmth was to always have two or three choices of dessert in the house. And I’m not talking about sliced fruit. Cake, cookies, pie… she wasn’t much of a baker, but she did frequent a local bakery that did a nice job. Once in a blue moon she made a pie, and I would get to make a little tiny pie of my own with the scraps or crust that weren’t needed for the main effort. And I grew up to be a person who loves to bake.

Years ago my guitar teacher suggested that I write a song about something I really cared about. Butter and sugar came to mind, politically incorrect though it may be. If you like dessert, this tune may speak to you.
